Pediatricians Needed Education
If you want to become a pediatrician you need to have the required education. After completing 4 years of high school, you will need 4 years of undergraduate courses at a college or university. While in undergraduate school you will need to prepare for the MCAT test. This test is what you will need to take in order to get into medical school. Completing undergraduate school will get you a BS, BA, or other Bachelor's degree. After completing college, you will need to attend 4 years of Medical School. During medical school you will complete clinical rotations. Completing medical school will get you an MD or DO degree. After this, you are a general doctor. Since you will be a new doctor you will most likely go on to learn a specialty in medicine, such as pediatrics. This includes at least 3 more years of Residency training. The first year of residency was formerly called an Internship. In the case of pediatrics, the training of residency is approximately 3 years. During these years of residency you will get hands on experience with treating children and adolescents under the supervision of well experienced doctors. After completing these 3 years, you are now a pediatrician and are you are eligible to become certified in pediatrics. During the course of your medical degree and being involved in residency programs, you will need to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). You will need this in order to practice medicine within the U.S. After you pass the USMLE, you will be able to apply to your state's board of medical examiners for a medical license. Some states recognize licensure from other states, you might need to complete additional requirements to practice in more than one state. The University of Florida, Michigan State University,Temple University, and Boston University are just some of the schools who offer accredited medical residencies.
